Research Interest

Biomaterials, Biointerface Science, Wearable/implantable Biodevice

The biointerface is created when a biomolecule (e.g., DNA, RNA, protein, antibody), viruses, bacterial or cells touch solid surfaces such as inorganic materials, synthetic polymers.
The aim of our study on biointerface science is to understand and control the behavior of such biological objects on the interfaces via water. We are developing highly functional medical devices for artificial organs, biosensors, and regeneration medicine through the design of biointerface which is fabricated by polymer membrane and polymer gel. Recently, we are interested in the study on wearble and implantable biodevices.

Subjects of Reseach

Development of rapid, minimally invasive, low-cost, ubiquitous analysis systems for biomolecules.

Purpose of Research

The integration of cutting-edge microfabrication and IoT technologies will realize and socially implement next-generation diagnostic technologies to help people suffering from illnesses.
Microdevices have features such as the ability to reduce the amount of specimens and reagents and speed advancement of chemical reactions. Taking advantage of this, we are developing a system that is minimally invasive, low-cost, and can quickly diagnose diseases at home, at the bedside, and in various other locations.

Participant Companies

Honda R&D Co., Ltd.

Honda R&D is always working on research which is anticipating changes of the times.
In this course, to reduce human error while driving, we are conducting research and development of monitoring system that detects and predicts human physical and mental states such as fatigue, frustration, and anger, which contribute to driving risks, before unsafe driving behavior appears.
